Through a void, barely

The work is an installation composed of laser-printed acetate sheets, layered to create three forms that symbolise the different places and spaces where my personal hoarding has occurred. The images on the acetate sheets consist of edited photographs I’ve taken since 2014 in each of these places, blended together to create a visual representation of hoarded memories and obscurity.

Influenced by South Asian and Queer identities, the piece explores my hoarding in these contexts, specifically through hiding identity, scarcity mentality, and the feeling of time slipping away. It reflects on how these emotional factors have contributed to my personal hoarding behaviours, emphasising on the tension between holding onto memories and time, and the dangers that comes with it. My aim with the layering technique is to showcase the gradual void this creates, where the greater the accumulation, the less identifiable it becomes in the process, thereby unintentionally aiding its erasure.
